Part 2: Refurbishing a child's chair

The child's chair is finished and it turned out great! You can view part 1 of this project here.

I finally succumbed and purchased some white spray paint. The thick oil-based outdoor furniture paint was too thick and gummy. The spray paint generally had good coverage, but there were some odd speckled areas where paint simply refused to stick. Next time around I will investigate primer.

The striped cotton bedding I bought for the seat ripped easily into strips and the weaving was simple to do. I had to go back and add a few extra rows because I didn't scrunch the bands close enough together at first to create enough tension. The seat was loose and sagging. You can see some gaps in my initial weave.

This chair has a thick frame, not the slim round posts like the ladder-backed chairs in the tutorials, so I couldn't integrate the bottom into the top layer. My chair seat has two layers, but appears secure and tight. The seat has some spring to it, but I will report back once it has some child test-miles put on.

The only downside is that the bottom is a bit hairy looking with the knots poking out, but hopefully no one will notice. It has gone to a good home!
